Fun 4 All, a twenty-four-year-old business owned by Richard Nelson, has moved from Ypsi to Pittsfield Township, in the block of stores anchored by the Carpenter Road Target. Nelson was on the phone when a reporter walked in and delegated the interview to sales associate Jason Glenn. Glenn says the store sells comics and board games, and he’s particularly enthusiastic about the trading card game Magic the Gathering. “There are five colors of Mana,” he starts out explaining. What is Mana? “Well, it’s your resource pool. Like money, sort of.”

And what do you do with it? And why five colors? “They each run different mechanics.”

How do you even start? “I would start you off with an introductory thirty-card basic deck.” Free. And thus opens the rather frightening rabbit hole you can fall down when you walk into a store like this.

Magic is such a big deal that it has its own tab on the website’s navigation bar, but then, so does Yu-Gi-Oh, which offers tournaments in “modified Swiss format.” See Wikipedia. We can’t explain everything here.
