Q. From Plymouth Rd., you can see a building above Arbor Springs that looks like it has an observatory. What’s the story there?

A. That is not an observatory, but the “dome home” of architect Sahba Laal. Completed in 2009, it was designed in a style he refers to as “sweet minimalism.” He terms the dome “domus atticus,” for it serves as his attic. Laal also designed the recently completed Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Brighton; he reports that about 70 percent of that building is made of recycled materials.
