Michelle Kulcsar moved the Dancer’s Boutique from the Lamp Post Plaza to Zeeb Road’s Scio Town Center in the space recently vacated by the Little Seedling. The Little Seedling moved into Boulevard Plaza on West Stadium in search of more foot traffic. Kulcsar had plenty of that at her spot near Trader Joe’s, but her new space has what she was really after–twice as much square footage. “We’re a destination business,” she says of her store that sells dancewear–leotards, tights, shoes, and accessories for both kids and adults. “Certainly we’re the only dance store in Ann Arbor, probably the only one in the county. We pull from several counties–our customers come from Toledo, Brighton, Canton, Livonia.” And yes, little girls still do wear pink tights and black leotards, “though a lot of studios are a little more flexible these days.”

The Dancer’s Boutique was founded by Kulcsar’s mother, Roxanne Blaess, and Sarah Martens in 1993. Martens, a former dancer, owned the Dance Alliance in Saline, and Blaess was the studio’s office manager. “My mother unfortunately passed [in 2010], and I bought out Martens,” says Kulcsar.
