Curry On

Owner Rutul Patel, who owns the business with Swetang Patel (despite the shared surname, they're not related), says the new signage went up in March. "A Palo Alto restaurant named Curry Up Now has aspirations to be national" and objected to their use of the name. "Our goal is to stay in Michigan, but we wanted to avoid future complications."

Rutul Patel had some other news. He's also about to bring out a new menu. "People are demanding more vegetables," so they've reworked the menu to include more vegetables and more vegetarian options. Though the new menu wasn't quite ready to show off in late April, he promised it would be in place by June. And, maybe as a reward for eating all those vegetables, the new menu will also add desserts: "You know Indian desserts?" asks Rutul, a little apologetically. "They're really, really sweet." There will be jalebi (like an orange-colored funnel cake soaked in sugar syrup) and gulab jamun (like a donut soaked in sugar syrup) and carrot pudding, possibly soaked in sugar syrup. "We like to play around with food," he says, so they'll also offer some concoctions fusing Indian desserts with ice cream.

Curry On, 2711 Plymouth Rd., 418-3175. Daily 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Website will be renamed    (end of article)
