Jackson Rd. in Scio Township will add yet another auto dealership when the new Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram opens early in January. It replaces a building that housed Jungle Java, which was demolished to make way.

The 34,000-square-foot showroom, sales, and service facility is being built on ten acres, which “will allow us to carry the largest selection of FCA [Fiat Chrysler Automotive] products in the county,” emails Ron MacEachern, general manager at the Suburban Collection. At least initially, however, it will not include any Fiats. In the face of weak sales, last year FCA reversed course and began allowing dealers to fold their Fiat and Alfa Romeo stores into Chrysler Jeep dealerships, but for the moment, Suburban will continue its vest-pocket “Fiat Salon” on W. Stadium. It’s reviewing options for the longtime Naylor Chrysler building across Stadium, which for now will continue to house its body shop and auto reconditioning operations.

Headquartered in Troy, Suburban is the largest dealership group in Michigan and sells thirty-two brands of cars and trucks in more than forty locations, according to the Detroit Free Press. Its other Ann Arbor outlets are the big Chevrolet-Cadillac dealership on Jackson at Wagner, and another selling BMWs, Mercedes-Benz, and Smart cars on Auto Mall Dr. just off Jackson.

Jackson is solidifying its role as the local Dealership Row; in addition to the Suburban stores, shoppers can kick tires at Varsity Ford, Dunning Subaru, Sesi Lincoln, LaFontaine Buick GMC, and Ann Arbor Automotive, all within a few blocks.
