“This is a tough one,” wrote Mary Stefaniak. “My guess is the Cavern Club.” “Tricky,” agrees Alexander Marsh, identifying the vantage point for November’s photo as “a weird spot in the back alleyway.”

“It’s the ‘Circus/Cavern Club/Millenium/Gotham City'” complex, confirms Annalise Jencson. Dan Romanchik adds that our photo shows “[p]art of the sign for Ann Arbor Central Mills.”

The mill opened its doors at 210 S. First St. in 1882; prior to that, the site was home to three breweries starting in 1860. In 1900, Central Mills built the current brick structure around the original wood frame of the old breweries–preserving the cellar vaults–now a unique part of the Cavern Club. “I’m going with The Blind Pig on S. First Street,” writes Dave Bicknell. The Blind Pig–also originally part of the same complex–contains the mill’s original safe.

We received eleven entries, eight of which correctly identified the Central Mills building on First. Our winner, drawn at random from among the correct entries is Annalise Jencson of Ann Arbor. She will enjoy her $25 gift certificate at Downtown Home & Garden–the site of our last I Spy!
