Ann Arbor Fish & Chicken

A family fries up everything from shrimp to wings.

by Patti Smith

From the January, 2018 issue

A bright dessert case lines the checkout stand at Ann Arbor Fish & Chicken on Washtenaw near Golfside--diners can choose from caramel cake, pudding, pie and cheesecake. But the focus here is on deep-fried seafood and chicken, with options ranging from shrimp, catfish, and tilapia to chicken tenders, wings, and gizzards. Side dishes run from spaghetti to potato salad to hush puppies and abundant offerings of fried vegetables. Larger parties (and larger appetites) can feast on shrimp by the pound, 100 wingdings, or 200 chicken wings.

The manager on duty, who gave his name only as Brian, says that the restaurant is locally owned and not part of a larger chain. "It is the family's first restaurant," he says. "And we are hoping to do our best to build the reputation for good quality" food.

Brian says most of the business has been carryout, but there are booths for those who like to dine in. Acknowledging the plethora of choices on Washtenaw, he says that they hope to bring in customers with daily specials and by providing them with the best choices and the tastiest food.

Ann Arbor Fish & Chicken, 4872 Washtenaw, 544-1833. Open daily from 10:30 a.m.-midnight.     (end of article)
