First inspired in an art class at Chelsea High School, Stephen Kolokithas has forged a career in custom jewelry design working from home. Now he’s moving to Main St.: he plans to open Jewelry Set in Stone November 12 in the space below Global Marketplace’s new digs. The store will sell finished pieces–from colorful Fordite earrings to Petoskey pendants–as well as offering custom jewelry services.

“It makes me feel good to work with customers to create what they want,” Kolokithas says. He uses stones, diamonds, or an antique piece of jewelry to create a new design or to refurbish an old piece. “The sky’s the limit,” he says of his creative process. To honor his wife on Mother’s Day, he designed a piece for her using a 3-D printout of his son’s recorded ultrasound heartbeat, set on 14-karat white gold with his birthstone.
