“I spy a mural,” writes Jason Rupley, referring to the black-and-white painting featured in November. It’s on “the Thayer Street entrance of Panera,” says Sara Kitzsteiner, “… across from Hill Auditorium,” adds Bethanni Grecynski. Susan Tainter of U-M’s School of Information notes the former Comerica Bank branch “has a space on an upper floor for community engagement.” This mural was painted “by street artist Olga Alexopoulou,” writes Dave Bicknell.
Alexopoulou’s work is part of U-M’s Global Graffiti Project. Three internationally renowned muralists–Alexopoulou, Cacao Rocks, and Mehdi Ghadyanloo–each visited this fall to paint a wall, two exteriors at Panera and one interior wall at the U-M Institute for the Humanities at 202 S. Thayer building. The goal, according to a U-M website, was to provide “a global perspective of street art and its importance as a part of public space and discourse within the public sphere.”
We received twelve entries in November identifying Alexopoulou’s mural. Our random drawing winner is Mark Stefaniak of Ann Arbor. He will enjoy his $25 gift certificate at Tios.
